An electronic mailbox (e-mailbox) is used for official electronic communication with public administration and is a fully equivalent alternative to standard paper-based correspondence. Individuals, self-employed persons, and institutions can use an e-mailbox to submit applications, proposals, or other requests exclusively to public authorities. Conversely, they can also receive various official documents (decisions) from public authorities.
To access and use an e-mailbox, you need to complete several important steps. First, you will need a computer with an internet connection to access the website. Other specific requirements include an eID card, a BOK security code, a qualified electronic signature (QES), a card reader, and the installation of the required software on your computer.
To successfully log in to your electronic mailbox, you need a Slovak national ID card with an electronic chipOpens in a new window, known as an eID card, which is used to verify your identity. You can apply for one at any Identity Documents Department of a District Directorate of the Police Force.
For authentication purposes, you can also use a residence permit with an electronic chip, an alternative authenticatorOpens in a new window, an authentication certificateOpens in a new window, or an electronic identification means issued by another EU Member State. For more information, see the article on the eIDAS NodeOpens in a new window.
When obtaining your eID card, you must personally choose a six-digit Personal Security Code (BOK) at any Identity Documents Department of a District Directorate of the Police Force. You will use this code to log in to your electronic mailbox on the slovensko.sk portal by selecting “Log in to the portal”.
For security reasons, we recommend choosing random digits rather than your national identification number. If you need to write down your BOK, keep it in a separate place from your eID card.
You must then request that signing certificates be loaded onto your eID card so that you can sign electronic submissions using a Qualified Electronic Signature (KEP). The certificates can be loaded at any Identity Documents Department of a District Directorate of the Police Force or online. For more information, see the User Guide.Opens in a new window
You will need a card reader to use your eID card, which you must obtain separately. The Ministry of the Interior of the Slovak Republic has published a list Opens in a new windowof the most commonly used compatible card readers. Many desktop computers and laptops now also have a compatible card reader built in.
Another essential tool for using your electronic mailbox is software that you must install on your computer. It is available free of charge in the installation package in the “Software applications for downloadOpens in a new window” section of the slovensko.sk portal.
We recommend checking first whether your computer meets the specified system requirements to ensure that everything works correctly.
The installation package contains:
