An alternative authenticator takes the form of a card with an electronic chip and a six-digit Personal Security Code (BOK). The alternative authenticator is issued free of charge and is valid for three years.
An applicant may be an individual who does not hold an official authenticator, i.e. who cannot be issued an identity card with an electronic chip and BOK (eID card) or a residence document with an electronic chip and BOK, and who is simultaneously:
- a statutory body or a member of the statutory body of a legal entity with its registered office in the Slovak Republic and registered in the Slovak Commercial Register; or
- the head of an organisational unit of such a legal entity.
The applicant must apply for an alternative authenticator in person at a Police Corps office. Foreign nationals without residence in the Slovak Republic may apply at all 12 Foreigners’ Police departments, while Slovak citizens without residence in the Slovak Republic may apply at 9 Police Corps document departments in regional capitals.
The application must contain the applicant’s first name and surname, date of birth, nationality, country and address of residence, BOK (which the applicant may choose freely), the business name and registered office address of the legal entity registered in the Slovak Commercial Register, and the applicant’s signature.
The accuracy and authenticity of these details must be demonstrated by presenting an identity card or passport.
If these details do not correspond to the information recorded in the source register (for example, the Slovak Register of Legal Entities) or are not up to date, the information in the source register must first be updated so that it corresponds to the information provided in the application for establishing the individual’s electronic mailbox.
The electronic-chip card will subsequently be delivered to the applicant at the address specified in the application.
If a foreign statutory representative who has an alternative authenticator wishes to access the electronic mailbox of a legal entity, they must submit, in paper form, an Application for Establishment of an Electronic Mailbox for an Individual Who Is Not a Citizen of the Slovak Republic, bearing the applicant’s officially certified signature.
The application must be sent to:
National Agency for Network and Electronic Services (NASES)
Tower 115
Pribinova 25
811 09 Bratislava
Slovak Republic
The foreign statutory representative must also have their birth number recorded both in the Register of Legal Entities and in the Register of Individuals.
If the foreign statutory representative’s record in the Register of Legal Entities contains only their date of birth, access to the legal entity’s electronic mailbox will not be technically possible.
In such a case, the relevant register must be requested to add the foreign statutory representative’s birth number (mandatory identifier) in the section concerning the statutory body (first name, surname, birth number).
