If your doctor certifies you as temporarily incapable of work, they do so electronically by entering the information in eHealth.
The information is automatically sent to state systems and the Social Insurance Agency. You do not need to submit a separate sickness benefit application—the electronic temporary incapacity record is treated as the application.
What does this mean for you?
- you do not need to deliver the temporary incapacity certificate to your employer,
- you can find information about your temporary incapacity in your Insured Person’s Electronic Account,
- you can ask the doctor for a confirmation (a copy of the ePN),
- you can report a change of residence during temporary incapacity electronically.
What can the employer see?
The employer automatically receives the following information through the Social Insurance Agency’s electronic services:
- the start, duration and end of the temporary incapacity,
- your place of residence during the temporary incapacity,
- information about any breach of the treatment regimen.
From 1 August 2026, the employer may also receive this information through payroll software.
The employer therefore no longer needs a paper temporary incapacity certificate.
However, you must still inform the employer that you are incapable of work.
How communication with the Social Insurance Agency works
- The Social Insurance Agency processes the ePN data automatically,
- the Social Insurance Agency provides your ePN information to the employer through its electronic services,
- the Social Insurance Agency pays the sickness benefit from day 15 of the temporary incapacity.
Insuree’s Electronic Account
If you set up an Insuree’s Electronic Account, you can:
- monitor information about your temporary incapacity,
- report a change of address during temporary incapacity,
- set the method of benefit payment,
- submit selected filings.
