I am changing the permanent residence of my entire family
You can also electronically change the permanent residence of your spouse and your children under the age of 18.
Once the authorisation has been granted, you can submit an application to change the permanent residence of your entire family using the electronic service Change of permanent residenceOpens in a new window.
To submit an application electronically, you need an electronic identity card with a chip (eID) and a qualified electronic signature (QES).
In person
You can submit your application during office hours at:
a municipal or city office, or
a local district office (in Bratislava and Košice).
What will you need when submitting your application?
Proof of identity
a valid identity card,
or a certificate confirming the issuance/status of an identity card,
or a Slovak passport (if you do not have an identity card),
or a certificate of Slovak citizenship,
or a document confirming the granting of citizenship of the Slovak Republic.
Property details – information required to verify ownership of the property.
Property owner's consent
Written consent to residence registration bearing the officially certified signature of the owner or all co-owners.
You do not need consent if:
you are the owner or co-owner of the property,
you are registering your spouse or dependent child,
you have a lifetime right to use the property,
the owner or co-owners provide their consent in person at the authority.
Registering a child
If you are registering a child under the age of 18, you will need:
the child's first name, surname and birth identification number,
for an electronic application, the electronic consent of the other parent.
Do you need to deregister or cancel a residence?
Deregistering permanent residence due to moving abroad
You can deregister your permanent residence due to moving abroad using this electronic serviceOpens in a new window. Once your permanent residence has been deregistered, your residence will be recorded as residence abroad. You must report the change before leaving Slovakia or immediately after your departure.
Request to cancel another person's permanent or temporary residence
You can electronically submit a request to cancel another person's permanent or temporary residence if that person has no right to use the property.
After changing your permanent residence, you will receive a notification that your documents need to be replaced.
Change of permanent residence and a new identity card
After changing your permanent residence, you must apply for a new identity card within 30 days of the change.
Where to arrange it: at any District Directorate of the Police Force.
Fees
You will pay the following fees for a new identity card:
• issue of an identity card – basic fee of €7, • expedited issue within 2 working days – €20 + the basic fee, • delivery of the document to an address – €4 + the basic fee.
Change of permanent residence and a firearms licence
If you hold a firearms licence, you must report a change of permanent residence within 7 working days. Report the change to the documents department of the Police Force (firearms and ammunition section) in your new place of permanent residence.
When you do not need to report the change
You do not need to report the change if your firearms licence was issued at your temporary residence and that residence has not changed.
What you need
To obtain a new firearms licence, prepare:
• 2 photographs, • an administrative fee of €45 (unless you are exempt from the fee), • all firearms you own (for inspection).
Fees when changing district
If the district changes, the firearms registration certificates must also be replaced.
• the fee is €9 for each firearms registration certificate.
Change of permanent residence and a motor vehicle
If you are the owner or keeper of a motor vehicle, after changing your permanent residence you must apply to update the details in the vehicle register within 30 days of the change.
You can arrange the change at the Traffic Inspectorate, where your vehicle documents will also be updated.

Social Insurance Agency
Report the change of permanent residence to your employer. They will then report it to the Social Insurance Agency. If you are self-employed or unemployed, contact the Social Insurance Agency directly.
Health insurance company
You do not have to report a change of permanent residence. However, we recommend reporting it to make communication easier. You can do so by telephone or email.
Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family
A change of permanent residence does not need to be reported separately. The Office is notified of the change and, if territorial jurisdiction changes, it will forward the relevant applications to the competent office based on the current permanent residence. The currently recorded address will be used when paying social benefits.
Real Estate Cadastre
If you own property or act as an authorised representative, you must report a change of permanent residence to the Cadastre.
Submit the application to the District Office – Cadastral Department responsible for the area where the property is located.
Important information: If submitting the application by post, always address it to the District Office (Cadastral Department) responsible for the cadastral area where the property is located. If the properties are located in several districts, submit a separate application for each district.
What the application must contain
An application toupdate personal data recorded in the Real Estate Cadastre must include:
Applicant details
• individual: first name, surname, birth surname, date of birth, personal identification number, permanent residence address, • legal entity: name, registered office, identification number.
Property details
• municipality and cadastral area, • title deed number, • parcel number or building registration number.
Details of the change
• the change requested (e.g. a change of permanent residence address), • the previous and new address.
Attachments
• a document proving the change (e.g. confirmation of permanent residence), • where applicable, a scan of the identity card.
Other requirements
• identification of the District Office, • place and date of submission.
Useful tip: If you submit the application electronically and sign it with a qualified electronic signature, you do not need to attach proof of the change because it concerns your own data. Updating permanent residence in the Real Estate Cadastre is free of charge.
