Attackers can easily copy the logo, colors, design, or layout of the original site. At first glance, the website may appear trustworthy.
The most important piece of information is always the web address (URL).
Always check before entering any data:
• the website's domain,
• the correct organization name in the address,
• suspicious characters, typos, or additions,
• whether the site uses the correct official domain.
Fraudsters often use addresses that differ from the original by only a single letter or character.
Although the website uses the Slovensko.sk logo, the displayed photograph shows a foreign police vehicle and a police officer that clearly have no connection to the Slovak context.
Such inconsistencies are a common sign of fraudulent websites. Attackers use stock photos without regard for whether they actually correspond to the institution being portrayed.
One of the most common signs of phishing is linguistic flaws.
For example, the following appear on the sample page::
• incorrect use of the abbreviation "EVČ" instead of the standard designation "EČV",
• unusual phrasing,
• inconsistent terminology,
• typographical errors.
If you notice typos, incorrect declensions, or unnatural-sounding sentences, this is a reason for increased caution.
The fake website repeatedly mentions the driver's license points system.
The text states:
• „0 points“
• „Points in the driver's license“
• „No points are awarded for this category.“
Such phrasing may indicate that the content was taken or automatically translated from a foreign system.
Scammers often use generic templates designed for multiple countries and do not always perfectly adapt the content to local conditions.
One of the most effective manipulative techniques is pressuring someone to make a quick decision.
The page displays phrases like:
• „Pay this fine as soon as possible.“
• „Failure to pay may lead to further sanctions.“
• „50% discount for payment within 7 days.“
Attackers aim to induce fear or stress so that the user acts impulsively and fails to pay attention to details.
Official decisions by state authorities follow a strictly defined process. If you encounter texts that resemble an advertising campaign, be on your guard.
Example:
„50% discount for payment within 7 days.“
Such wording is often designed to motivate the victim to make an immediate payment without further verification.
The most serious warning sign is the moment the site asks for:
• cardholder's name,
• card number,
• expiration date,
• CVV code.
On fraudulent websites, these details are typically entered directly into a form controlled by attackers. For legitimate payments, the user is usually redirected to a trusted and verifiable payment gateway belonging to a bank or a certified payment provider. Never enter your card details unless you are 100% certain of the website's authenticity.
Before every online payment, ask yourself a few simple questions:
Is the web address correct?
Does the page contain typos or unusual phrasing?
Do the images and content match the organization being presented?
Is the page trying to induce fear or create a sense of urgency?
Is it suspicious that I am being asked to enter card details directly into a form?
Did I receive this request through an official channel as well?
If you have even the slightest doubt, do not click, pay, or enter personal information. Instead, open the organization's official website manually in your browser or verify the information directly with the institution in question.
In cases of phishing, a single detail often makes the difference. Paying close attention to the web address, language errors, and unusual requests can prevent the theft of money or sensitive data.
